William Goodman was born in Wimbledon, England. After a structured but aimless childhood, he served in the Royal Navy. He came to the United States in 1959. His chance discovery of the California School of Fine Arts (now The San Francisco Art Institute) jogged him onto the path he was to follow for the rest of his career. The birth of a grandson in 2004 set him on a new path--the creation of mechanical toys and games.

His love of making things and the search for a place in which to do this, led him to New Mexico where he now resides.
